Office for Mac that comes with a Microsoft 365 subscription is updated on a regular basis to provide new features, security updates, and non-security updates. The following information is primarily intended for IT professionals who are deploying Office for Mac to the users in their organizations.
Note
On November 10, 2020, Apple announced the availability of new Mac devices based on a custom architecture known as Apple Silicon. This article outlines the support of Microsoft 365 and Office 2019 on Apple Silicon devices. The December 2020 release (build 16.44) provides native support for both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. Apple has finally announced on Thursday that Microsoft Office 365 is now available on Mac App Store. Users can now directly download the signature Microsoft apps such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Excel on their MacOS computers. Earlier, Mac users relied on Microsoft's website for downloading Microsoft apps. I just purchased my first Mac.Macbook Pro.at the Apple store. - For security reason, Microsoft has deprecated the use of SHA-1. Learn more
- Starting with the 16.17 release in September 2018, this information also applies to Office 2019 for Mac, which is a version of Office for Mac that's available as a one-time purchase from a retail store or through a volume licensing agreement.

Office 365 for Mac has been designed specifically to support features that are unique to the Mac experience — features like Dark Mode and Continuity Camera in macOS, as well as the MacBook Pro Touch Bar and the Mac's industry-leading Trackpad.
